The Cornerstone Building comprises of a new build extension and the refurbishment of existing library accommodation. The design evolved through an attentive stakeholder engagement process to optimise the use of space and deliver efficient and functional rooms.
A new extension to a 1970’s library facility with internal reconfiguration, refurbishment to expand the existing book stack provision. Improving library management and the quality and choice of the learning environment. The design has been developed in close consultation with the librarians, service providers and end users and establish a wider range of flexible resource spaces for project/team working and individual study. It also incorporates a student support drop-in centre located off a new glazed entrance foyer. The building reinforces the landscape quadrangle and is designed to achieve a ‘very good’ BREEAM rating.
