One Park West

One Park West is a 17-storey residential tower along the historic Liverpool waterfront. In collaboration with Architects Pelli Clarke Pelli, a landmark residential building with commercial frontage to enhance Liverpool’s internationally famous waterfront. The buildings central tower and curved park elevation forms part of the grand ellipse that embraces the Park and frames the view from the city centre over the waterfront and Albert Dock. The central tower and its raking corner further define the Park edge as pointer to the new era.

The building is shaped to take full advantage of its views and parkside location. The most recognisable element of the exterior wall is a series of sloped sun fins, spanning three stories.

The challenges were immense. A naturally ventilated, south facing, fully glazed building on the edge of an urban motorway within a marine environment required real time research and development with specialist subcontractors, including technical analysis, computer modelling and laboratory testing.

We adopted modern methods of construction, offsite manufacturing, lean management tools and shared IT aligned to DFMA principles to deliver this signature building within 21 months – three months ahead of programme.

The project won a Civic Trust Award in 2009.
