Peter Ian William Carmichael and David Le Marchant Brock founded the practice in 1974. From the offset they worked on various landmark projects that are still the beating heart of Liverpool.
Their design values and practice ethics still run with us today.

We work on projects across the UK and beyond, with an established presence in the Far East through our Hong Kong branch, and via the Octagan Partnership, a joint venture vehicle operating throughout China.
Brock Carmichael was founded in 1974 by Peter Ian William Carmichael and David Le Marchant Brock. From the offset, they worked on various projects that still form the beating heart of Liverpool. Their design values and practice ethics still run with us today.
Brock Carmichael played a huge part in the regeneration of the Albert Dock, creating & restoring local landmarks such as the Maritime Museum and the Piermaster’s House, which now form an indelible part of Liverpool’s iconic landscape.
Between 1981 and 1986, Brock Carmichael carried out extensive refurbishment, remodelling and extension of the much-loved Philharmonic Hall, maintaining the character of the Grade II-listed art deco building while making significant upgrades.
The 1990s saw the development of RopeWalks, which had fallen into disrepair after decades of disuse. Brock Carmichael designed and implemented the transformation of parts of this area, including what is now Campbell Square, a thriving hotspot for hospitality venues in the heart of the city.
The year that Liverpool was crowned Capital of Culture, Brock Carmichael were proud to be involved in the huge development of Liverpool One, including multiple sites on Paradise Street and One Park West, overlooking Chavasse Park.
Much has changed since Brock Carmichael was founded, but our core values continue to guide the practice as we work on a wide variety of exciting projects in the UK and beyond.
