Sanctuary Housing, 57 homes across 6 sites

Brock Carmichael is working with Sanctuary Housing, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Development Delivery Partner, to deliver 57 units across six sites in Ellesmere Port including the town centre and Neston on the Wirral.

The homes are part of a wider CWAC initiative to provide 230 affordable and 20 shared ownership homes across the Council’s Authority area for social rent, funded via a £7.5m successful bid to the Government’s Housing Revenue Account borrowing programme.

The projects will provide much needed re-use of existing mostly redundant former garage sites. Brock Carmichael assisted Sanctuary in the competitive bid to secure the development project and is providing the proposed development strategy, vision for the sites and delivery in a local working partnership with the Local Authority.

Using an efficient standardised technical approach, each site responds spatially and visually to the needs of each local context and community need.

In Whitby Road Ellesmere Port, for example and on the RHS, Brock Carmichael is working with Sanctuary to demolish commercial/retail units and provide 14 modern apartments (1 bed/ 2 person occupancy) in a 4 storey block with communal facilities and 3 three bedroom townhouses. The development will have off road secure and gated communal car parking space for 20 cars, served directly off Whitby Road.

The development has the ability to develop its own character and sense of place as a small development and to form a visual symbol of regeneration of former industrial sites with good design relationships to the local town centre. The site adjoins a Listed Building, formerly a Cinema and will form an appropriate and complementary design to complete the length of the former Cinema’s street frontage.
