Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts

This landmark project saw the restoration, extension, conversion of the Grade II Listed former Mechanics Institute and the construction of a new annexe building and atrium to form the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, to provide university education and performance facilities.

The atrium between the new annexe building and the original listed building provides exhibition and performance spaces, as well as a recreational focal point for students in addition to its use as a foyer for the studio theatre.

The facilities include a 500-seat auditorium with fly tower, full front and back of house facilities, full technical support facilities, 160 seat Studio Theatre, 4 specialist Recording Studios, workshops, rehearsal Studios, acoustic practice rooms, teaching spaces as well as social and amenity spaces.

The project went on to win a Civic Trust Award – Special Mention.
