Area 370 bed scheme

This new 370-bed student residential Scheme is located in the heart of Swansea, previously occupied by the HMRC. Currently in planning, this development aims to provide high quality private landscape for residents, improvements to the public realm to reactivate the high street and will feature extensive water, carbon and energy saving sustainability features to archieve a BREEAM “excellent” rating.

The building ranges from 5 storeys to 11 storeys. The design of the overall massing has been continuously driven with the site context in mind, including the level changes, local and distant views, as well as its presence and significance within its setting and relationship with existing vernacular.

The material and colour palette has been selected in response to the tones and materials within site context. The lighter tones reflect the relationship with the train station, with the articulation of these materials and their architectural detailing reflective of the local Victorian vernacular. The materials strategy for the proposed development will consider the impact of both overall life cycle use as well as the environmental impact. It is proposed that high quality materials are used and decisions will be made to optimise the use of materials and safeguarding natural resources.
